Congratulations to Dane Smith, our latest Success Story!

Dane was hired as a Litigation Paralegal for a law firm in Eugene, Oregon.  Dane's job duties include the following:
My job is to perform all of the legal research, draft all motions, i.e. Motion to Supress, Motion to Dismiss, etc. Organize trial notebooks, interview clients, on-scene investigation, communicate with District Attorneys, help with voir dire, and legal theory strategies.

Dane, how did you find out about your new position; and how long had you been looking for a position?  I answered a newspaper ad, and was searching for three months.

Are there any specific job search strategies you would like to recommend to others?  I tailored my resume to reflect what a paralegal actually does. A lot of lawyers are not familiar with the range of help we can offer them, and get caught up on the "paralegal" terminology. It is essential to reflect all of the information one learns in this AIPS certification. Larger law firms know the skills we learn and can incorporate but not smaller cities.

Dane, could you describe how your AIPS schooling impacted your ability to find this new position?  The legal reserach class is what I benefited most from.

Dane, do you have any other words of wisdom for us?  Be aggressive and give them a reason to hire you. Don't be passive, grab each opportunity and attack and make them realize that they would be at an advantage by hiring you. It may seem conceded, I feel it is confidence

Thank you, Dane, for allowing us to share it.  Good luck to you!!
