Congratulations to Jody Gault, our latest Success Story!
Jody was hired as a Case Manager for a law firm in Santa Monica, California. Jody's job duties include the following: I request medical records, submit the via mail or electronically to Social Security, contact the client to keep updated on their doctor visits, any new diagnosis, and contact Social Security with these changes.
Jody, what was your employment situation prior to finding your new job? I was a Barista at Starbucks waiting for a legal position.
Which skills from your prior positions helped you apply for and obtain your new position? Organizational __X_ Communication__X_ Computer__X_
How did you find out about your new position; and how long had you been looking for a position? I found this position on Craiglist, and had been looking only three months.
Are there any specific job search strategies you would like to recommend to others? Seeking help from the Career Services at AIPS. Annie Sacks-Fisher was wonderful. she gave me advice on my resume and when I made changes she would get back to me quickly. Also even if you don't send out a work skill-based resume it is a god idea to sit down and think about the skills you have and how they can apply to the position you are seeking. I find it really helps prepare me for potential interview questions as well since I was entering into a completely new career.
Jody, could you describe how your AIPS schooling impacted your ability to find this new position? I would have never thought to search out a legal career without the skills and lessons I have learned in my classes at AIPS.
Jody, do you have any other "words of wisdom" to share with us? Don't ever be afraid to try something different, and you're never too old, young, or stuck to do just that.
Thank you, Jody, for allowing us to share your story. Good luck to you!!
