Congratulations to Lorraine Stock, our latest Success Story!
Lorraine was hired as a Legal Assistant for an IP Law firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lorraine's job duties include the following: Preparing and filing patent and trademark applications in the U.S. and foreign countries; following through with patent and trademark applications throughout the prosecution process; attending to maintenance, renewal and annuity fees for issued patents, registered trademarks and foreign patent applications; corresponding with clients and foreign associates regarding intellectual property matters; researching various patent and trademark databases to assist with a "watch" service for clients; maintain docket for all IP matters.
Lorraine, what was your employment situation prior to finding your new job? Employed by Briggs and Morgan, P.A. as a Legal Administrative Assistant. I assisted with administrative duties (file maintenance, correspondence, itineraries, etc.), prepared U.S. patent applications and patent prosecution documents for filing with the USPTO; assisted with docket maintenance and other intellectual property matters as needed.
Which skills from your prior positions helped you apply for and obtain your new position? Organizational Communication, Analytical, Computer, plus knowledge of U.S. patent and trademark rules and procedures, and the willingness to "get the job done."
How did you find out about your new position; and how long had you been looking for a position? I don't really feel that these questions are applicable to my situation since I hadn't started looking for a position. The main supervising attorney I work with wanted to promote me when I finished the program. He was able to do that mostly because the IP paralegal working for him decided to take another position.
Lorraine, could you describe how your AIPS schooling impacted your ability to find this new position? I believe AIPS was a key factor in helping me obtain this position. My supervising attorney was very happy to learn that I was enrolled in a paralegal program. Ever since I told him about it, he regularly asks me when I will be finished.
Thank you for allowing us to share your story, Lorraine. Good luck to you!!
