Congratulations to Tammy Grebin (O'Connor), our latest Success Story!
Tammy was hired as a Legal Assistant/Bankruptcy - Implementation Plan Specialist for a Law firm in Burr Ridge, Illinois. Tammy's job duties include the following: Opening files for Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies; notifying the foreclosure department of any new bankruptcies; and calculating attorney costs and fees.
Tammy, what was your employment situation prior to finding your new job? Employed as a Lawn Care Business Assistant.
Which skills from your prior positions helped you apply for and obtain your new position? Organizational Communication and Analytical.
How did you find out about your new position; and how long had you been looking for a position? I found the position advertised on CareerBuilder.com. I had been searching for approximately 2 1/2 weeks.
Are there any specific job search strategies you used that you would recommend to others? Be selective about the position you are looking for but not the salary offered. Many posted job openings are willing to negotiate.
Tammy, could you describe how your AIPS schooling impacted your ability to find this new position? I believe that my education at AIPS gave me an edge; because, although I have never worked in bankruptcy/foreclosures before, I was familiar with basic concepts and what my duties might include.
Do you have any other "words of wisdom" you would like to share? Apply to as many relevant job positions as you can, but keep track of what you applied to. I was lucky and found this job quickly, but I know others who looked longer. Don't get discouraged. It's all about timing, when you apply and when companies are hiring.
Thank you for allowing us to share your story, Tammy. Good luck to you!!
