What areas of law are covered on the CLA exam? Does the Review Course cover all of them? How do I decide which ones to choose?
Students and paralegals who sit for the CLA exam must choose four our of nine categories of substantive law upon which to be tested. The nine categories are:
General Law (Required for all test-takers.)
Administrative Law
Criminal Law
Family Law
Contracts
Business Organizations
Estates and Probate
Bankruptcy
Real Estate
Litigation
Yes, the test prep course will cover all of the categories! As far as choosing which of the four areas of substantive law to take, I'd choose the four I feel most comfortable with or have the most experience with.
I have a background in Family Law and Litigation, so I would definitely choose those two. Then, I'd pick two others that interest me - maybe Criminal and Probate - and concentrate on those. Each student will have to make that call!
