PACE is the acronym for the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam. It is a four-hour, 200 question, computerized, multiple-choice exam sponsored by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations. Paralegals who pass this exam are designated as Registered Paralegals (RP).
The PACE exam is designed to evaluate the competencies of paralegals across practice areas, and to create a professional level of expertise by which all paralegals can be evaluated. Thus, the PACE exam is geared toward experienced paralegals and tests skills commonly used by all paralegals: Maintaining client files; interviewing and fact finding; general civil litigation procedures; factual and legal research; factual and legal writing; and office administration.
