To:

The PACE exam is composed of 200 questions that evaluate general paralegal competencies and ethics.  The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions.  PACE is scored on a scale score, which is an arithmetic conversion of the raw score.  Because PACE has multiple exam forms, and the exam forms may vary slightly in their level of difficulty, the scale score ensured that different forms have the same meaning.  The scale for PACE ranges from 300 points to 700 points.  The passing score is 550 points.  Depending on the difficulty of the exam, the number of questions you need to answer correctly to achieve this score can change.  Approximately 40% of first-time takers pass the exam.

Test questions come, in varying percentages, from subjects in five different "domains":

Domain I - Administration of Client Legal Matters  (23%)

Domain II - Development of Client Legal Matters  (30%)

Domain III - Factual and Legal Research  (22%)

Domain IV - Factual and Legal Writing  (20.5%)

Domain V - Office Administration  (4.5%)

Since it's inception in 1994, over 500 paralegals have obtained the RP credential.
